I think that’s a piss poor excuse honestly.
I stumbled upon slash of characters I loved on accident when I was rather young as well (Kurama/Hiei from YYH), and I’ve never really shipped them specifically either.
But to say “Well, my poor little second grade mind was SCARRED FOR LIFE by the GAY so I can not accept any queer readings within Harry Potter”, well, forgive me if I side eye that pretty hard.
Yeah, that’s a horrible excuse for learned homophobia.
To be fair, Draco/Harry never made sense to me at all. But then again, neither did Draco/Hermione.
Having watched this video, I want to say that it’s good to raise awareness that “cosplay is not consent,” that it’s good to acknowledge that sexual harassment CAN and WILL happen to men as well, and what happened to him was disgusting and wrong.
I also want to say that what HE and HIS FANS have to say on his Facebook is also disgusting and wrong:
First of all, how DARE you trivialize sexual harassment and then turn around and make a video about how “cosplay is not consent?” And how dare you place the blame of harassment of UNDERAGED GIRLS on the underaged girls themselves, and then have your friend make excuses for the men because “they’ll hit on anything regardless of what she’s wearing?” You just proved that your thought process is wrong but then go and laugh about how it’s useless to blame guys because “you can’t stop guys from hitting on girls.”
Second, how exactly are pretentious nerds bitching about “fake geek girls” who cosplay any different from pretentious nerds bitching about “fake gamer girls?” Why should you give a shit about “gamer girls?” I personally don’t give a damn if some hot chicks pose with their controllers. Quite frankly I think they’re enough of a gamer to associate their eroticism with gaming since I know a million girls who, if they took sexy pictures of themselves, would NEVER use anything relating to video games in their sexy picture.
This guy is a massive hypocrite. Take a glimpse at his Fanservice Renji facebook and you’ll see contradiction upon contradiction within damn near all of his statuses. He may not be slipping roofies into girls’ drinks at conventions but he’s still every bit as stupid and sexist as the jerks he wanted to complain about.
